Out of Hours Please call 111 if you need help between 6.30pm and 8.00am. Your call will be answered by NHS111 who will be able to direct you to a local service which best meets your needs. Please call on the practice telephone number after 8.00am. Between 8.00 and 8.45am, your call will be answered by our out of hours provider. After 8.45am your call will come through to us.
If you want to speak to the doctor on the telephone or just want some advice that doesn't require you coming in to the surgery, please ask for a telephone consultation. If you telephone before 10.00am your call will be returned the same morning.
Cancelling your Appointment
If you are unable to attend an appointment with one of the doctors or nurses, please telephone to let us know on 0161 227 9785 (Boundary) or 0161 872 8129 (City Road).
We're very sorry to inform patients that Dr Nortcliff is now leaving us for pastures new. Dr Nortcliff joined us as a Registrar in 2012 before becoming a Partner in 2013. He's made a big difference to both the practice and patients, and we're really sorry to see him go. His last day with us will be 21st July. We wish him every success for the future.
In addition to routine appointments we also provide the following services:-
Cervical Screening – appointments for smear tests can be made with the practice nurse.
Sexual Health Screening – appointments can be made with the practice nurse.
Contraception Services – advice is available from the doctors during normal surgery or by appointment with the practice nurse.
Vaccinations and Immunisations – by appointment with the practice nurse.
Baby and Under 5’s Clinic – Baby clinic is held each week from 09:00-11:30am on Thursdays at City Road for routine vaccinations.
Maternity Services – Ante-natal care is given in conjunction with St Mary’s Hospital and the Community Midwives. The doctor will visit mothers and their babies at home after delivery on request.
Drug Misuse – If you have a problem with drugs or alcohol please see the doctor to discuss how we can help you, or ask at reception how to contact the drugs adviser.
Alcohol Problems – We offer appointments with the Community Alcohol Team; please ask at reception.
Drug Monitoring – We offer regular monitoring and testing for patients on long term drug therapies.
Stop Smoking - Please make an appointment with one of our Practice Nurses who will give you advice and ongoing support about stopping smoking.
Flu Vaccines – We offer annual immunisation for those over 65 years and those in at risk groups. Click here for more info and clinic times

Over 75s Health Checks – Please book an appointment with the practice nurse.
We are funded by the NHS to provide healthcare. We do not have the facilities to do all the reports, medicals and notes for employers, colleges and housing agencies that people would like us to do. We may provide them at our own discretion and charge for the time involved. Please allow up to a week for documents to be ready.
A scale of charges is displayed in reception. Please note we will not provide character references.
You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website.
If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay).
It is up to your employer to decide whether you are incapable of work. A medical certificate, now called a 'Statement of Fitness for Work’ (see below) from your doctor is strong evidence that you are sick and would normally be accepted, unless there is evidence to prove otherwise.
You could also provide evidence from someone who is not a medical practitioner, e.g. a dentist. Your employer will decide whether or not this evidence is acceptable. If your employer has any doubts, they may still ask for a medical certificate from your GP.
The 'fit note' was introduced on 6 April 2010. With your employer's support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury.
